can anyone with a 1949 ford parts book give me the part number for a ford headlight switch? I need a comlete switch with knob and bezel for a '49 Merc. and am trying to find out if the switches are the same. thank you

The knob and bezel for the Mercury is different than the Ford. I do not know if the switch is different.

The switch I listed above is for the '49-'50 Ford car and the '48-'50 Ford truck. The knobs and bezel can very well be different on the Mercury as they are attached to the switch and not part of the switch. The knob is just pushed in until it snaps into place and the bezel screws on after the switch is put into place in the dash The difference in this switch and the later switch ('51-on) is that a dash light dimmer feature is incorporated into the later switch.

Thank you both, Richard and Tom, for your input. I have looked in a 1949 mercury parts book and it also calls for the 7RA-11654 switch. If I locate a switch and then the correct knob and shaft I'll be all set.thanks again guys, you helped a lot.
