Topic: 1951 Ford.

Our 1951 Ford Victoria is fitted with the stock wheel trim rings with wheel cap over. It has radial tires on stock rims. The wheel trim rings 'walk' around forcing the valve stem to bend. I have tried many methods to hold them in place but still they rotate.
Any remedial ideas please? Cheers, Peter. AU.

That's a common problem with radial tires on stock rims. I had the same problem trying to keep my Oldsmobile hubcaps on my 50. Solution #1, change your rims to late 80's Bronco II rims. Solution #2, put a bead of silicone around the mounting surface of the trim rings.

Are they original trim rings or repos? If repos they tend to not fit tight enough and do exactly what you are describing.

G`day Tom. They are 51,000 miles original rings I believe. I tried 100 MPH tape to the rims at the 'claws' but still walk! I prefer to use the tires as they are fairly new & came with the low miler imported Viccy. Going to later wider rims is a solution but will waste WWW tires. Thanks for your response. Cheers. Peter.

Dear Sir. Thank you for your reply & response. It is a consideration as the WWW tires are really new. Cheers. Peter.

Peter, you might consider new outer rims. On a 49 that I once owned I used the stock wheel centers and took them to a place that made new wheels. They supplied new outer rims and placed my centers in the new outers with the original offset. The new outers will have the safety bead in the rim and that prevents the flex of the outer rim.

You should be able to run the tires on the Bronco rims without any problems.
