Topic: 36 gas/oil gauge schematic...long intro

I have 2 diagrams: first from the back of the Club's 35-36 book and the second from Vintiques dash wiring harness (68-14401). The first shows wire 'BY' going from the oil sending unit to the bottom post of the oil gauge with wire 'BG' from the oil gauge top post to the resistor. It also shows wire 'Y' going from the fuel sending unit to the bottom post of the fuel gauge. It seems to indicate that the oil and fuel gauges are strapped on the top. My original fuel gauge has 2 posts aligned vertically and doesn't appear strapped to the oil gauge.
The Vintiques schematic shows 'BG' on the top post of the fuel gauge, which again appears as strapped to the top of the oil gauge.
Question: should I strap the gauges at the top posts?...and were there different fuel gauges used?
Thanks for the help.

Mich V-8 If you have a dual gauge, it should be strapped on the top ( a jumper wire will work just fine) See attached photo of a dual gauge unit.

Thanks Don...that's exactly what my gauge looks like and I'll strap the top posts.
