are sway bars from late '40s to 46-47 the same? I need one for my '40 and am down in Arizona and found one on a 46 at the wreaking lot that "looks" like it is the same. Does anyone know? Mine is 2700 miles north, so I cannot compare.

Not sure what you mean by "sway" bars. Do you mean the stabilizer bar part number 21A-5494? If so, that part is not listed for '40, only for 42-48. If you mean the track bar, part number 21A-3530 (front)or 51A-4264 (rear), that also is not listed in the Green Bible for '40, only 42-48. I've attached a picture showing the two bars for identification.

Definatly a sway bar, or stabalizer bar, not a track bar. Its on the front axle. Came out on 40 deluxe Fords. I had my original, measured, measured the one from the '46 here in Casa Grande, and they seem the same, so its now mine. As a note, Desert Valley say they do not have a '40, but they do and some nice or reasonably nice, belt SS trim is in a '37, just lying there. Thanks for the response, Old Henry. Met a couple of Club members from Minnisota while there.

Well you guys have got me scratching my head. Probably because of the terms being used. Ford refers to a stabilizer bar going across the front and tracking bars going on a diagonal front and rear. According to the 41-48 Ford book the stabilizer bar made its appearance first in 1940 and was revised slightly for the 41s. The front tracking bar made its appearance in 42. The rear tracking bar also made its appearance in 42 but only on the station wagons. It went on all cars in 46.

So if I read Avrotoms question correctly he is looking at a 46 stabilizer bar that he wants to use to replace the one on his 40. If I am reading the book correctly it probably will not fit.

Avrotom, I hope you didn't pay much as the '40 bar is quite different than the later bar you'd acquired.
It would require a lot of modification to fit and work properly on a '40.
