In response to the Question by Dana Grubbs in Jan/Feb issue regarding high RPM in '51 Ford Pickup, it is obvious she is running 16" tires. She can solve this problem by installing 17" tires / rims, which were standard for that truck when used by the US Government, as they did not like 16" split rims.

I have a 1949 F-3 with the same issue, which was resolved by changing rims/ tires. You will have to change the speedometer. You will find the truck has plenty of power at 65 MPH and RPM is much lower.

To limit transmission noise you may want to add teflon to your transmission fluid, which coats the gears.

PS: I have extra 17" rims, and maybe tires if your are interested. mike.webb@ufuel.com
