Topic: 12 Volt battery Negative terminal to ground

My friend recently purchased a 1940 Ford with a 12 volt battery wired with negative terminal to ground. Is this a problem, can it remain this way or should it be changed to positive terminal to ground?

If it has a 12 volt alternator or generator, and it is charging correctly, I'd say leave it like it is.

My '47 is 12v negative ground using an alternator. no problem. Connect/extend your alternater's sensor wire to the selenoid terminal and it will charge even at an idle which in my car is 500 rpm. Dan

Changing to 12 volts is always a hot topic. One of the main reasons is to make it possible to use modern electronics in the car. This means 12 NEGATIVE ground like the modern cars. Unless it is giving you problems, leave it as is. If it is giving problems post what they are.
