Topic: 1941 Column Drop - How Do I Replace?

I recently got dad's 41 Sedan Coupe. I need to replace the column drop. I have the bolts removed on the old drop. That was quite a chore.

Now what? I assume I have to remove the column tube, but I want to be sure before I start down that path.

OK. I got it off. I didn't follow the typical method of dropping it out the bottom of the car. I don't think the bell on the top of my tube will clear the hole in the fire wall. I removed the steering wheel, the retaining ring holding the gear shift shaft to the top of the tube and the two bolts holding the column drop to the dash.

Then in the engine compartment, I unbolted the shift linkage from the top of the tube and finally removed the clamp holding the tube to the steering gear box.

It slid off with a little force and had plenty of room in the cab to clear the steering shaft.

Voila - done.
