Topic: '37-'48 steering sector shaft questions

Bought what appears to be an NOS sector shaft part # 78-3575 in original box with roller as advertised by the seller. However, upon on closer inspection there seems to be some differences. The one that stands out the most is there's no indentation on the end of the shaft for a gear puller. My '36 & '40 shafts both had these indentations. Could this be because it's a replacement part or that FORD used different suppliers?

What you see is the machined center used for manufacturing this part. Not all centers will be identical in every part even if parts are produced by the same company. I don't see any need for concern relative to having slightly different centers on these sector shafts. There are many other features to be more concerned about to determine the goodness of this part.

JM, thanks for responding. Both of these parts are basically the same with the sector housing on both units canted slightly to the right. There are no mtgs. markings on either one. Going to assemble tomorrow after honing bushings and then should know if all is right.
