Topic: Owners Manual Envelope - 38 Standard Coupe

john38coupe    -- 01-07-2014 @ 11:54 AM
I have a Standard 38 coupe with V-60 and trying to locate an envelope for the original owners manual which I have. I plan on making one myself understanding they are not reproduced but looking for the exact detail that would be printed on the face of the envelope and size-location of letters. Appreciate photo of an envelope should you have one or any specifics you may have. Thanks / John

I dont have one, but I am pretty sure that they are just like the 85hp ones --- except instead of the V-8 85hp --- it's V-8 60hp.
So, if you can find someone with an 85hp envelope, you basically have the layout and information for the 60hp one.
I know this doesn't get you what you want, but you now know they are similar.

John, Did you purchase that manual I spotted for you?
I am 100% certain the envelopes are quite different "standard" vs "deluxe".
Perhaps someone out there has one that can send you a photocopy of?
I have made envelopes for the 1940 models. You ARE certainly on the right track!
Good luck!

  Mike,
Yes, I did purchase the manual, thanks and that would be great if someone provided a photocopy of a "Standard V-60 owners manual envelope. On page 3-56 of the 38/39 Ford Book, there is a photo of a 39 DeLuxe envelope. I don't think they indicated the engine size - 85/60 ?????? Can anyone assist?

They are reproduced. Bob Drake offers a 1938 Ford Owner's Manual Envelope for Three Dollars.

The envelope Drake sells is a generic version and will NOT be acceptable on the concourse.

Here's a copy of the envelope for a 39 standard. The '38 standard is the same with the exception of the year(number)and perhaps the color.
Note the printing in the upper - left corner is the same as the deluxe manual. The big difference is the lower - left corner printing.

Thanks Tony but 'Drakes' reproduction envelope is the wrong size, incorrect wording and wrong font type. I'm looking for a photocopy of a members 1938 Standard Ford 'envelope'. My car is a V-60 and don't know if that was identified on such envelope.
Thanks again for responding.

  Mike,
Thanks.....this is just what I needed. Question, what are the actual envelope dimensions and can you tell me the font size (height) of each line of script. Thanks very much for your time on this.
John

Take a photo of the one that Kube posted and then take it to any good printer and they can easily match the Font and spacing. Just bring the correct envelope.

For me personally, it is not a big deal about the size of the Drake's envelope. I use the 1948 Drake Envelope to actually hold my 1937 owner's manual--fits in the glove box nice. Not interested in points--just an envelope for my manual.

Good luck. I hope you can find what you are looking for.

Hi John, Private message me with your address and I will send a hard copy of the envelope to you.
The envelope (flap folded) is 6 1/2" x 4 7/8". The flap folds over 1 3/4".
As you now realize, the 60HP cars did not have a dedicated manual. Rather, it was included in the "passenger and Commercial" manual.
