restoring a 33 coupe... it was suggested to me that I weld the frame solid before reassembly to keep the frame tight? The frame is factory riveted and tight... will the welding be of any benefit or hindrance? Comments please... Thanks.

I would suggest that the reason these old Ford frames lasted is that they were able to flex. Make it stiff and it will crack somewhere. If this is a stock vehicle, I would strongly disagree with the idea of welding on the frame.

I agree with deuce-roadster. Do not weld the frame. They were designed to flex and since they have lasted this long they will definitely still be around long after we are gone. Not sure who gave you the suggestion but you need to ask them how come the frame has lasted this long without "making it tight".

Good advice came quickly. I suspect the advice to weld it came from someone not familiar with the whole Ford suspension concept. They need to flex. 1934 Ford's since 1972

How many million Fords were built with riveting technology? Ford had the best welding available and riveted the frames rather than weld them. Don't weld your chassis, they were designed to flex! Make sure all your rivets are tight and none are missing and enjoy your car!
