In ford tips recently it suggested not to use ETHYENE GLYCOL but use PROPLENE GLYCOL. Where to find propylene glycol .?..john

Suggest you check the pink antifreeze ingredients used for RV's,

VW uses that in their cooling systems. They price it out of this world and say its a life-of-the-car fluid. Few believe them and many go to common Prestone after 100,000m. Have two jugs of it and even after 110,000m it still tests great.

I get mine at NAPA right off the shelf, brand name Sierra. http://www.peakauto.com/products/antifreeze-coolants/automotive/sierra/ Here's an interesting comparison of the two types of antifreeze: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/ethylene-propylene-glycol-d_904.html#.Uo7bJ5fn9hE

Sierra antifreeze is widely available. It is less harmful to animals if it leaks, and produces less foam, particularly in vehicles without pressure caps. It is not used in RV systems because it is not meant for human consumption. Be sure to read the instructions on the label as the dilution is somewhat different than ethylene glycol. I have used it for years in my old cars with good results.

When testing the freeze protection range you must use tester different than one used for E. Glycol. I found a cheap P. Glycol ball tester at Advance Auto Parts.

what would be the correct mixture using the siria propolene for a v8 46 ford.thanks in advance

  Sierra container says:

50/50 -26° F
55/45 -39° F
60/40 -54° F

Personally, I like to limit my antifreeze to as little as needed for protection at the temperatures I am expecting during the winter because antifreeze, even Propylene Glycol, does not cool as well as water. I put 1½ gallons in my 5 gallon system with 3½ gallons of water and am protected to 0° F and think I get a little better cooling in the summer.
