Does anyone know where to find old paint codes? I would be interested in other brands as well to help a friend. The local paint store only can go back to 1955.My freind's car's dash plate is missing so that won't help.

Go to Auto Color Library. They have the paint codes back to the start of automobile production and can supply paint matching them.

A word of warning: Places like Color Library (example)do their best to match modern paint tints (chemicals) to the old paint formulas. However, "their best" is only close at best as it has become nearly impossible to find exact equivalents of years past to modern paints. IF your friend is doing a concourse restoration, I strongly suggest he find a place where the authentic color was not damaged too much from the sun and natural elements.
