Topic: 37 Ford Gas Tank Mounting

Rono    -- 09-27-2013 @ 1:53 PM
The gas tank on my 37 coupe project car was totally rusted out. I have a new tank on order and know that they have cage nuts in the flanges for mounting to the frame. I also ordered a gas tank mounting kit. The kit has 3 fine threaded bolts with 1 bolt being drilled for a spring, castle nut and cotter pin. I have no idea where this would mount. Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks

The tank is held firmly by two bolts on the passenger side. The bolt of the left with the spring is loose to allow for frame flex. See page 4-7 of the restoration guidelines from the club.

I believe you have the wrong mounting kit for this tank. Should be three bolts with drilled heads and the spring and two pads. The bolt heads get safety wired to the loops in the frame. No nuts or cotter pins are necessary. Check with Roy Nacewicz for the correct kit. www.fordbolts.com

You were correct! The kit I purchased from Bob Drake was not the right mounting kit for my 37 tank although it was sold as such. After talking with Roy Nacewicz, I purchased his kit which has the correct hardware and the rubber strips that isolate the tank from the frame.
Thanks for your help!!
