Topic: Did the 48 ever have coil springs?

I'm finding some conflicting information as to whether or not the 48 Fords ever had anything other than transverse leaf springs. Some sources say that 48 was the first year for front coil springs, others say it was 49. I thought it was also 49 before this was introduced. I can't imagine Ford bothering to introduce a new suspension on the old 48 body style.

The confusion arises because the early "new Fords" with the front coil springs actually appeared in late '48 and were titled as such. All earler cars carried the "buggy springs". The Ford pickups in '48 were the first to have the engine that appeared in the "49" Fords as the "8RT", later to be the 8BA. The custom of unveiling model changes in the fall can blur the distinctions.
