Topic: Driver side door does open from inside handle

Driver side door opens but does not fully disengage
from the hardware. From the inside, cannot open the door and from the outside, with slight upward pressure
the open will fully open.
1. Where should I start?
2. What would be the possible adjustments?

Thanks

It sounds as if the door has sagged enough to hang up on the strike that catches the bolt (latch). That is why pulling up on the door helps. It can be worn or loose hinges, badly worn hinge pins, or both. I'd try adjusting the strike first, as replacing hinge pins can be a tough job. If the inside handle doesn't allow the door to open, it is likely that the link between the handle snd the latch is worn. Check the latch mechanism to see if it is so worn that the latch bolt is flopping around. All of these are common. Door latches are hard to find, and expensive if you do. I usually disassemble them and repair badly worn places.

To give you accurate help, you need to state the year and body style of your car.

Thanks for the reply. The car was a recent restoration and everything looked in order. The passenger door opened correctly, so I examined both doors and I discovered the drivers side door was missing a rubber
bumper that is fit in the upper door jam. I took the
passenger side and placed it in the drivers side. Problem solved. I probaly need to glue those in.
On a another issue, I need to remove a the water pump,
1936; how do you remove the sending unit? I unfastened the bolt but the sending unit does not want to be removed easily. Any tips?

Thanks.
