Got Kearney aluminum heads on my '36 (40-6049A & 50A.) '35-'36 Book says they should be flat top pistons but I have dome top pistons but have always had low compression (90lbs.) since rebuild. Pulled right side head and see no damage to either the head or pistons. Pulled receipt and doesn't say what type piston to use. Installed these heads in '95 and don't recall if I addressed this issue.

Recently acquired my set of Kearney Heads ... when discussed with owner it was brought out that using the flattop piston will give you less compression ratio (7.0 versus 7.5) than with the domed pistons ... so my opinion is that it may not be book legal (domed vs flattop for a '36) but it definitely won't cause any problems, in fact, you will get a small bit more power. chas34

Chas34, thanks for responding, was hoping that would be the answer. I got my heads over 15 years ago & couldn't remember how I addressed the flat top versus dome piston issue.
