Topic: flat heads

Just received a flathead a friend took from his 40 1/2 ton pu, I will be installing in it a 41 3/4 pu, until we can rebuild the 41 engines. The water neck is broken, may be able to braze but part of the neck is missing. So I will be looking for another matching head. Both heads have the letter A on them. What does that desingnate? Are there any of these heads out there?

That "A" began to show up in 1939. The heads you seek are not that scarce and therefore not that pricey.
There IS a left and right side.
Which side do you need? I may very well have it.

Thanks for the reply. I left the flathead world in 57, and just now going back to them. Thanks for the reminder of right and left. This one is on the right side. If you have a known good head, with no porting etc, how much and from how far would it have to be shipped. I am in Mount Vernon, wa.
Thanks, Dennis

the part numbers on the head are on the end near the fuel pump, both numbers should be there one on each head facing each other, sometimes heads get mixed up or replaced when an engine has been worked on, they will fit on eother side
