Topic: Input to coil

I want to see if my coil is receiving at least 3 volts during an operating temperature start. Where do I attach the leads from my voltmeter?

One lead goes to the battery side of coil, the other lead to ground.

The points have to be closed to get a meaningful reading. Otherwise, you will see battery voltage. When the car is running, the input is pulsed thru the points to ground, and most consumer voltmeters can't register the RMS (root mean square)of the supply to give a true reading. The coil presents an impedance to the circuit, rather thsn a pure resistance, so a static reading will only tell you if the windings are intact.
