I am replacing the gas tank in 40 Ford with new Bob Drake unit. Any advice on prepping/ painting before install ??
Thanks.

I just used a Bob Drake in my 40. The old one came out very easy but the new one didn't. The outside dimensions are exactly the same but if you measure the tank bulge on the top sides they are about 1/8" wider. Just enough for mine not to go in no matter how I tried because I was working from the bottom of the car. I had to grind the frame rails and repaint them to get it to fit. You can't tell that I did this. As far as painting the tank, I just used a Rustoleium spray can in gloss black and it looks great. Very nice tank.

Before you go to the trouble of painting your gas tank I would do some checking. The tanks were terne coated and would not require painting. The original one I took off my 42 certainly has no paint on it.
