The oil pump drive cover on my 41 V-8 does not have the extension On it that looks like it is suppose to cover a plug next to it. the Gasket set I have has two gaskets that look like they are pump Cover gaskets. The one that does not have the extension on it The bolts do not line up.The on that the bolt holes line up has the Extension on it and it does not cover the cover in that part and looks Like it will leak if it is installed. would silicone be OK to uses there? what is that plug next to the cover for, and would hurt if silicone Covered it? Thanks for any help. ronnie

The plug you see is to block the rear of the oil gallery. The gasket should have five holes in it and conform to the shape of the oil pump drive cover. Don't use RTV silicone for sealing any engine parts. It tends to dissolve and break off, plugging vital engine passages. Parts stores sell the proper sealer from a top brand such as Permatex. We use the non-hardening variety.
