Topic: VIN number on 1939 Ford Standard Woodie Wagon

  Hello All,
I am a new member and had a question that possibly someone can give me some direction. I have a 1939 Ford Station Wagon and I am trying to find the VIN/Car no. number on the car. Prior to us, it had the same owner since the late 1970s. I would be most grateful for any information and guidance regarding this. Thank you!

Marc

MarcWoodie23: Welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on your acquisition. Unlike modern vehicles that have comprehensive VIN numbers, your 39 only has a serial number. The serial number can be found on the top of the left frame rail between the
front crossmember and the steering box. It will start and end with a star, and is often fairly hard to read as it is lightly stamped. If the car has it's original transmission, the same number will be found on the transmission "bell" near the top. These numbers are sequential, and contain no information regarding assembly plant, body style, color or other options. There should also be a body tag on the left side of the firewall, which is a sequential body number from the maker of the "body",(floorpan and cowling) which in your case will be the Briggs Body company which then assembled the wooden subassemblies shipped from Fords Iron Mountain facility. Two suggestions; 1. acquire the Clubs excellent 38-39 book for information on what is correct for your wagon, and 2., join the National Woodie Club.
