I just bought a 1940 ford and one of the wheels is bad. (hubcap won't stay on). The hubcaps are new, they look good, the wheel tabs looks wore. The Iola swap meet is coming up and I'm going to look for new wheels, what years interchage with 1940 for stock hubcaps? Thank You.

40-48 are the same. The 40 wheel is 4 inches wide where the tire mounts on the rim. You may find some that are 4 1/2 so be sure to have your tape measure handy.

I would suspect the repop hubcap before the wheel.
Have you tried one of the other caps on the "worn" wheel ?
Do you have an original cap to try ? Any '40 to '48 cap would work as a tester.

1940 - 41 are the same sans any date codes. 1942 - 48 will fit and function on a '40 but are different.

The hubcaps that are on the car now look original, the right rear keeps poping off. I tried other ones and they won't stay on either. I bought repops and I don't want them to get dented falling off. Thank You for the replys.

  Bent wheel?

That's what I'm thinking, I'll have my wife follow me and see.

If the wheel is not bent you can try the following; Drill a 1/8 hole in each hubcap bump and install a 1/8 pop rivet. Usually that is enough to hold the cap to the wheel.

That sounds like a good idea, I'll have to try it. Thank You
