Left Mitch*ll about 7:15am and got to Davenport IA about 4. I knew the American Pickers were nearby so I looked them up and we stopped by. There was more stuff in display than for sale not counting the overpriced t shirts and trinkets. It was, however, a unique stop on the trip which is good for me because I usually just like to keep going. There were a few old ford things in the shop you will see in the pictures. Some of you may be glad to see hardly any driving photos. After the Rockies and the Black Hills miles and miles of corn is not that exciting. The wind was pretty strong and required a lot of input from the driver. I had trveled for miles with my steering wheel turned to the left about 15 degrees and thought I might need an alignment. When we started south the car drove perfectly straight with the wind at our backs. I seem to have found the culprit to the missing water as a leaky radiator cap. A gasket I made seems to have done the trick. No water used in over 500 miles. We have about 1000 miles to go and Fred and I seem to be going silent. I am not sure if he is a bit tired or has actually ran out of stories. But we do manage to come up with some social issue that needs fixing and discuss how difficult it is to fix because of repercussions to any changes. But on to our travels. We got checked into our hotel and made a few calls and looed for somewhere for dinner. I found a place called The Machine Shed. With machine in the name it had to have something good about it. It was truly an Iowan restaurant with farm machinery and waitresses dressed in overalls. Fred was impressed with all the people in there with their families and said it renewed his faith in the American family. The manager came by to ask how everything was and we talked for a bit only to find out he was born in Troy NY. He and Fred then talked about different things they knew from that area. Oh yes, the food was also very good. I have included a few pictures. Tomorrow we hope to get past Cleveland. We hit some rain today. Off and on, heavy at times. Well Frank sure going to miss seeing you on Monday in MN. Understand that all good things must come to an end. Be safe the rest of the way and thanks so much for letting everyone know what it is like to be on the road with an Early V-8. Bruce

With Frank and Fred's absence from the main tour group I will try to recap the day. With a little luck I may be able to include a few pictures in a day or two. I should have gotten a training session from Frank be for he left us. We left Wall, SD this morning; (many of us had checked out the famous Wall Drugs yesterday(Friday)afternoon). We took the scenic route through the "Badlands". What dramatic change from the rolling grass covered hills to an unusual rock and soft stone textured topography with little plant growth. Barren eroded peaks and valleys banded with various colors. Finally my US park service senior pass was accepted. The route through the Badlands was about thirty miles in length. We traveled with the Killians and at the visitors center met the Padavanos and Reichels with their '51 Fords. Shorthly after leaving the Badlands National Park we came on another interesting stop. This was a former minute man missle site that formerly housed a number (20?)of minute man missles in silos during the "cold war". Very little to see as the site had been decommissioned. If fact we missed the visitors center because it was so small and next to a gas station/gift center. Dik and Joan Rial drove their '49 Mercury a mile down a dirt road attempting to find the site. After an hours drive on I-90 we arrived at the Pioneer Auto museum in Murno, SD. We had lunch and then toured through the museum. This place was huge! Over 250 vehicles of all makes and vintages;and not just cars but vintage tractors, farm equipments, and all sorts of collectibles, antiques a replica old village with freight station, caboose, blacksmith shop, school etc. Cars included a 1903 Ford, "T"s, "A"s mercs, cords, pierces, paige, Franklins etc. right up to a freshly restored'68 shelby GT500 mustang. Someone even saw a Chevrolet and a '54 corvette. Before leaving we got the Stauffers, Reitzs and Rybolts; who had recently rejoined the tour to pose with the manager "Don" for a photo and left Don one of our anniversary tour banners for their memrobilia collection. If you are in the area this is a must see. We didn't do the collection justice in the couple hours we were there. The afternoon was also shortened by an hour because we cross from Mountain time into Central. We left about 4 PM and had a 140 miles to cover before getting to our overnight destination in Mitch*ll, SD. Instead of dinner out; we planned a pizza party in the main hotel. All 28 of us met for pizza, beer, wine and then for desert, Roy Templet of New Orleans had a secret plan in mind. He had ordered a cake and ice cream for his wife Wille's birthday and also to celebrate Jim and Char McDaniels 45th wedding anniversary. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the camaradrie. The Mississippi/Louisana grop announced they will be heading south and leaving us tomorrow (Sunday) after a visit to V-8 club member Joe Floyds collection. Arel Brown

I'm checking in here every day for the Frank M Travelog . I'm going to miss you guys and all the tour stories once all of you get home.
