Topic: clutch pressure plate clearence 33 trans

Will a 6 bolt 35 pressure plate and fly wheel fit a 33 transmission that had a 12 bolt early pressure plate and flywheel? Will it rub the housing, if so where do I relieve the housing or pressure plate?

I had installed a 9" clutch (6 bolt) in to a 33 coupe a few years back. NO issues whatsoever. At that same time, I had installed a set of 48 gears in to the 33 gear box. a little extra effort was required to do this but the driveabilty was so much better with the "modern" gear set and synchronizer than the stock 33 gears, etc.

  Mike,

With all due respect, perhaps you were fortunate as the '35 service bulletins warn that there is a risk that the centrifugal weights on the 48-prefix 6-bolt pressure plate may strike the inside of the bell housing portion of the '32-'34 transmission case. The 48-prefix transmission case ('35-'36) has more clearance in the bell housing portion of the case as a result.

  Perhaps I was lucky indeed.
The swap worked out very well. The client that had brought me the 33 was especially thrilled with the updated gear set.
He's had that car on the road for a few years now without a problem.
