Topic: June 20 Grand Tour

Today was the Grand Tour along Lake Tahoe and towards Reno through Virginia with a lunch stop in Genoa and an even bigger hill into South Lake Tahoe. It was supposed to begin around 9 and we left a little before that. Fred and I were joined with Larry and Shirley in the 49 for the tour. The views were absolutely spectacular but pictures would be sparse as the curves and hills required total concentration and Fred does not like to take pictures. It was a great ride nonetheless and Fred had no shortage of stories to keep us entertained. I wonder if he will run out before the trip is over?
We stopped for a bit in Virginia City but it was not nearly long enough but we would miss lunch if we did not get going. I really wish we had started earlier but it all works out in the end. I have met people here from Australia, England, Sweden and New Zealand. All because I was where I was when I was.
Regional Group #1 has done an outstanding job putting this meet together. If anyone here did not see how hard all these volunteers have been working then they are more blind than I am deaf. They had a banquet tonight with over 900 people. Sure the hotel had to cook and serve the food but it was the volunteers that set up centerpieces and other niceties at all 90 or so tables. Unfortunately I had to leave the banquet early due to the fact I am leaving tomorrow and need to get up. It has been a tiring day. Got to get everything packed and be on the road by whenever I get there. The lot is emptying out and we will be saying goodbyes to those that are left.

O.K. guys , I'm back home from the GN and hope all of you have a fun safe trip home. It was fun meeting all of you and I really enjoyed the stories of the trip. Thanks so much for the compliments regarding the meet. It was a lot of work , but we also had a lot of fun and we had some dedicated people to work on the meet. It was our goal to see that you had a great time on the west coast. We got lucky with the weather as it is supposed to rain in Tahoe this Sunday and Monday. Mother Nature was on our side! Let us know as you travel east if we can help send you in the right direction to see the sights. Thanks for coming to the meet and supporting the Early Ford V-8 Club. Tom Johnston

Nice to be able to meet you. We are in Eureka Nevada and so far so good. We all know how stressful putting one of these things on can be and truly appreciate all you did. The banquet was outstanding. I hope your groups show a good profit. Even if it will only come to pennies per man-hour with all the work that was done. Frank Miller
