In my '34 21 stud motor a rebuilder gave me a .125 over bore and now I can't seem to keep it running ... water continually fouling out one cylinder and I've installed new head-gaskets three times now ... what are your thoughts??? chas34 This message was edited by chas34 on 6-8-13 @ 4:27 AM

.125 overbore? not .0125, could have gotten into the water jacket, usually down near the engine pan rail, if you have had the heads off three times, I suspect a bad bore job or pin holes due to rust a bottm of cylinder bore fill engine with water, take plug out of "fouling" cylinder bore, use a air hose with a rubber tip and with the rad cap off, blow air into the cylinder and see if the air comes out in bubbles thru the rad water,remember cylinder needs to be a bottom of stroke

If the piston is at the bottom of stroke, won't one of the valves be open ??? chas34

The best guess is that there is a sand hole somewhere along the bore of the leaky cylnder due to a slight mold shift during casting that was opened by the boring bar. This is not uncommon when overboring exceeds .060 Ford had problems of this kind, and went to sleeving to salvage othewise lost blocks. When the salvage yards were full of blocks we used to go through several to find one that would take a big oversize bore.
