On my 39 Standard Coupe, the hand throttle likes to work its way out when the car is being driven. Then when it is time to slow down for a stop sign, you realize the engine is running too fast. Are there any simple fixes for this?

Is this the early style with the cable? Or the later style with the rod? Either way, be certain it is adjusted correctly. Then, if it is, make certain the grommet on the dash is not worn out.

It has the rod. Where is the grommet located? Is it up under the dash? Are replacements available? Thanks!

dog, You might want to inspect your front motor mounts. A couple of years ago I had to replace the original front motor mounts on my '37. After replacing them, both my throttle and choke knobs were 3/8 of an inch sticking out from home on the dash. I had to shorten/adjust the rods so both of the knobs would be at home - that is, the knobs were flush/at rest on the grommets on the dash. This adjustment, so as to achieve no choke and no throttle at the carb when the engine is at rest/not running.....

Replacement grommets should be available through any of the V-8 parts dealers.
