Are there any advantages/disadvantages to using Delo 15-40W oil versus the 30W motor oil recommended for my 21 bolt V8? ... A few of the local owners say they have had good luck with it, but I was wondering if a 'diesel' use oil would be OK ... chas34

Diesel formulations usually contain higher concentrations of detergent due to the amount of combustion by products. Another well known brand is She'll Rotella. These will work in old car engines, but many of us use the more appropriate multi weight oils. I prefer using Castrol 20W-50 during the hot summer months. The original recommendation of straight 30 weight was made well before today's excellent formulations were available. There are as many opinions on oil as there are owners.
