Topic: Are these really needed?

I have often wondered why Ford seat backing boards have large circular holes cut into them. I suppose it is for some sort of ventilation but, are they really needed? Any ideas?

Yes, they are vents. As seats are used, they compress and decompress. We always suspected they made it easier for the mice to come and go!

Without the vent holes the compressed air from someone sitting back in the seat on a regular basis would blow the cardboard out of its retainers.

  Like a Woopie Seat?

Whoopie seat is right. Ever sit on an unvented cushion without being accused of passing wind? Amazing how many cars and boats get restored with whoopie cushions for seats.

1934 Ford's since 1972
