Topic: 1950 Ford cylinder heads

I recently purchased a 1950 Ford convertible. My question is about the heads. The marking on the heads does not have the 8BA marking. Instead they only have the letter F in the upper center area of each head. The car was made June 8th 1950 in the Richmond, CA, plant. I asked Cecil Goff about this and he said he never saw any heads like them. Does anybody have an explanation? Could they be replacement heads? Thanks for your help.

Usually the 49-53 heads bear the mark of 8BA or 8RT, but as long as they have the coolant outlets at the front, instead of the center of the heads, they will be fine. They could have been "service replacement heads", or just were made as a batch at Ford. I've seen "F" heads now and then, as well as 8CM heads, which are Mercury.

Thank you, Superreal the heads are exactly like the 8BA heads. Your comment about service replacements is exactly what I thought. However, this car looks so close to original with one repaint and cosmetic updates. It came with the California black plate and I plan on contacting the California BMV to research the car history. The car has never been cut bodywork wise. Still has original rockers and body panels. If I could figure out how to attach pictures I will put them up. My good late friend Don Clink gave instructions on the forum. Now all I have to do is figure it out. Have great day!
