Topic: 36 pilot bearing

I see that Mac's offers two bearings that go into the flywheel. One is a bronze while the other is a roller bearing of sorts. I ordered the roller bearing and noticed that it fits loosely around the main drive gear of the transmission. The fit in the flywheel seems tight. Won't the bearing slop around the on main drive gear? Should this fit be fairly tight as well? Maybe I should he used the bronze bearing?

It should not be tight on the shaft. However, it is designed to be a skip fit. That is, about .003" clearance.
i prefer the sealed bearings myself...

Me,too,Mike. The solid bronze type were obsoleted many years ago. The replacement is a sealed ball bearing. .If you think the bearing is sloppy, send it back and order another from a different supplier.

It's not sloppy, it just that it turns on the shaft. I'm asking is this the way it's supposed to be?

The outer rim of the bearing is a press (or drive) fit in the flywheel, while the inner race that fits over the transmission input shaft, should turn freely.
