The pump on the left side started leaking coolant out of the weep hole. I noticed the problem by the temp gage going way up. i stopped driving at that time. The pump continued to leak after turning off the engine. Overnight, about a gallon of coolant leaked out. The next day I filled the radiator up with coolant and drove the car a couple of miles. The gage was reading normal and the pump stopped leaking. Now, I don't understand why it would stop leaking and if the pump is bad or if I may have another problem caused by overheating the engine. Can someone help me out? Richard K

A small particle of rust may have been caught between the shaft and the seal causing the leak. Since it has stopped the particle may no longer be trapped in the seal. If the pumps are old you may want to change them just to be sure. I would definitely carry a spare pair of pumps just in case.

Thanks for the info. I checked to see if the pump was leaking this morning and it is. So,I am going to go ahead and take your advice and replace both pumps.

I would for sure replace the pump may be do both at the same time had same trouble years ago Rog Mn

Flushed cooling system, replaced the LH pump and lower hoses. I had no problems making the changes. System is functioning the way it is should.
