The keys to this trunk have been lost, replacements needed. I have had the origional locks picked and opened revealing a luggage type lock rivited to the hinge. I don't want to damage the origional rivits, they do not have cylinders, are the keys generic and all the same? The hinges relock each time the trunk is secured. Any experienced help appreciated. Also, anyone know how many phaetons were produced with this trunk? Thanks to all,

John, So, if I understand you correctly, you're saying that the hinges do not have cylinders which means that you need both cylinders and keys??? Seems to me that generic keys would defeat the purpose to have locks on the trunk. Would pictures of the original key help? I have been able to find key blanks which are a little different from the originals but can be cut to work.

yes, pictures of origional keys would help a lot, these keys are not like a ignition key or a door key, more like a luggage key. They do not have a cylinder but are more like my brothers old piggy bank key. This is a origional car with trunk. johnschultzks@gmail.com and thanks for all who take the time to help!

In the photo attached, the key on the left is original to the Potter Trunk on my unrestored/original 1934 Fordor Sedan. The key fits both latches. The key on the right was made from a blank that I found at an old key shop in St. Paul, MN. The shop used my original key to cut the blank and it works just fine. You can contact this key shop via their website at: http://katkeys.com/ They'll probably be able to help you if you email the attached pictures to them.

John, Attached is a picture of the other side of the keys. BTW - The Potter Trunk was not unique to just the Phaeton in 1934. It was also installed on Sedans. A good example was Bonnie & Clydes death car - a 1934 Deluxe Fordor Sedan. I don't think they were read their Miranda Rights.....:o)
