Could an early '36 have a '35 steering box in it from the factory? The part # on my steering box begins with the numerals 48.

The 48-3548 box was used in 35 and 36. The difference is the sector cover housing in 35 it was 48-3583 and in 36 it was 68-3583 due to the change to needle bearings in the cover in stead of the bushing of 35

40 coupe, thanks for the explanation; I guess it's another example of Henry using left over parts form the proceeding year?

I have a '40 (01-A) steering gear box that seems to be missing a piece at the very end of the column. It has a provision for what looks like where you would twist on a light switch housing like on the earlier Fords. In one of my earlier posts on the next page I provided a picture. Can you explain what might go there, am thinking something to do with the horn wire. I have since discovered that there is a provision for a wire bail.
