Topic: 36 generator & starter paint

I'm painting my generator and the starter. Gloss black, as I understand, is the proper color for them. My question is, are the front and rear plates painted as well? It appears that the generator was originally all black. But the starter end plates, were they painted or left unpainted?
Thanks

Both the starter and generator were painted after assembly. Thus, the entire assembly is black. Note that the starter was painted with the nose down, in to a hole that would have masked that end (starter drive & face of the end plate). Also, the terminals were hastily masked.

The correct color is "chassis black", a nondescript satin black color, not gloss. It was the standard all purpose paint used on frames, components, and other non body colored components.

Supereal, You bring up an interesting point.
I'd like to know how one determines the correct "sheen" of what you are referring to as chassis black.
There are no records that specify just how much (or lack thereof) gloss was integral of "chassis black". In fact all that I am aware of are the paint identifiers M-1713-D and M660.
