Topic: '36 Ford exhaust pipe removal?

Am having a problem trying to remove exhaust pipe, have removed muffler and pipe on back and removed crossover pipe but can't get the section from header to muffler out; can this be done with the engine in the car?

  Bob,

It can be done with the engine in the car.

You may have to remove the bolts for the front motor mounts and raise the engine enough to move the pipe forward enough to clear the frame cross member and then drop the back end of the pipe down to slide it out of the engine compartment.

Tom, will do, but I don't remember installing exhaust before installing the engine. Thanks, Bob

I have a 37 coupe. I removed the radiator and the right exhaust manifold and was able to remove the exhaust pipe. Its a lot of work.

I was able to get it out without lifting the engine; it's amazing what a good nights sleep can do for a thorny problem. With a few twists & turns it came right out. Thanks for the help.
