Topic: 47 V8 valve adjustment

  The recommended method for checking valve clearance is for the lifter to be on the heel of the cam. How can I be sure the lifter is on the heel of the cam since you can't see the cams? Can I assume that when the lifter is at it's lowest vertical travel that it corresponds to the heel of the cam? Appreciate your help. Thanks
Paul

  There is a chart in the 39-48 Service Manual reprint that works pretty well, but I use this method.

  Here is a chart that will simplify valve setting, and eliminate turning the crankshaft a lot:
X= Exhaust N= Intake valves.

When these valves are open: Adjust these valves:
4X+1N 3X 8N 6N 7X 3N 2X
3X+4N 1X 7N 5X 2N 4X 1N
1X+7N 8X 5N 6X 4N
