What would be the best way of removing SS hubcap without damaging it or the outer painted surface of the hubcap on my '36?

Attached is a picture of the Ford tool designed specifically for the job of hubcap removal on your '36. It should be part of the factory tool kit that came with your car. It did come with the factory tool kit for the '37, which has the same style hubcaps as your '36. Used correctly, it will easily remove the hubcap witout damage and will not scratch the paint.

MG, I've got that tool, was afraid it would damage the hubcap but will give it a try now. Thanks

Use what looks like the 'hook' end.......

And, put some padding or a blanket on the ground to protect the hubcap when it pops off.......

Harbor Freight sells a set of 3 or 4 plastic chisels red or black in color with a handle for a hammer blow. They come in different widths and work well to remove caps without paint damage.

There was an article in one of the hot rod magazines a while back and they drilled a 1/8 inch hole towards the back side of the hubcap. You couldn't see the hole from the front. Then they had a "T" handled hook and inserted it into the hole and popped the hubcap of with out scratching the wheel, pretty cool!

Bob Drake is advertising a new tool to remove the hub caps. It looks like it would work with less effort than any of the other tools that I have seen.

I use the non-metallic pry tools to remove my hubcaps. It takes a little effort, but I have not chipped the paint on my wheels.
