Topic: 1935 Transmission Stick Butler Finish

The 35 transmission stick had a Butler finish according the EFV8C “1935-36 FORD Book”.

I know what the finish looks like (kind of a brushed softer nickel chrome).

If I took my stick to a plating company would they know what I was referring to when I say Butler Finish ?

The easy way out would be to paint it glossy / flat black but it would be nice to have the correct finish.

Thoughts anyone ??

Find a shop that does three-step (copper/nickel/chrome) plating and ask them to stop after the second step (nickel).

that shifter should be satin chrome, butler are the same.
it is bulter satin chrome
this is shiny chrome that has been [ not buffed out ] to give it that satin finish,
any chrome plater that has been in business for a few years, should be no problem for them,
and should be able to do this for you, obtain this finnish, go to one and ask,
there might be also a few parts venders with a exchange program,
I Know they have that for MODEL A's
just nickle plating will tarnish quickly,
and you will not be happy,I have been there, done that,
nickle plating ended with the 1929 FORD,
that was the last time they used it,
to much up keep,
just my 2 cents ,37RAGTOPMAN

Allen, last fall I started to check out two shops in my area, neither reccognized the term "Butler Finish " other to say they would stop after the nickel dip (as deluxe40 said). One said he would buff out to a "satin" finish, the other guy used the term of achieving a "mat" finish.

So you may have to discribe you desired outcome when you are talking to them.

You can have the shift lever chrome plated, then use a MMM pad and gently rub it attain the butler finish. I hve used this method with success. Tom
