Topic: Starter Bendix Repair

rbone    -- 03-19-2013 @ 8:37 AM
I need to replace the small spring and 'washer' on my starter bendix that goes on the inboard side of the bendix (59AB motor). There are lots of places who sell the entire bendix assembly, but other than the large spring on the outboard end, tab washers and bolts, I have been unable to find just these two parts. Does anyone know who might sell just these?

Thanks,
Ron

Usually, it is best to replace the starter drive (bendix) rather than swapping out all but the body.. The drive takes a real beating in normal use, and it if becomes distorted, the chances are you will face a broken spring again soon. Starter drives are available at most good parts dealers, such as NAPA, etc. In any case, be sure the spiral is clean of oil or other material. Otherwise, the drive will tend to stick, causing failure.
