  I assume you gained this number from the patent plate? If so, what are the numbers below that?

  Have this serial number on the title. Have not yet got the car in my possesion.

  Havre, The code format was changing from late '49 to '51 and from stamped into the cowl to the metal data plate. Your number looks like an early Cowling '50 format before the trim codes were added.
B = V8 Flathead
0 = 1950
SP = Built in Saint Paul Minn.
185142 = Production number. Number started at 100,000 so yours was the 85,142 built at SP.

If you have a metal Tag riveted to firewall,it would have the body style and trim etc.

  Thanks Don---I have not the car in my possesion yet but exchanged money for the title and bill of sale so I have only that to go on. Your answer is a big explanation much appreciated. Gene

  Don--I meant to add that the Ford Crestliner was only built in 50 and 51 and only 8703 built each of those years. (Hemmings report) The 85,142 must only mean Ford cars built off St. Paul assembly line and not the actual Crestliner #'s?? You suppose that makes sense? Gene

Big Red 51    -- 03-18-2013 @ 12:06 PM
  That is the total units(all cars and pickups) built at Saint Paul at that time.

  Thanks to you all for the info. I believe I got it all figured out now. This is quite a rare car and I have seen many 1950 Fords but never a crestliner in person.

  Gene, the number you gave for Crestliners is a 51 number. There were 17,601 built in 1950.

Here is a link to an article written by the EFV-8 current President about his 1950 Crestliner.
