Topic: Temperature sender for stock '34 ...

I want to set up a temp guage in my book stock '34 but with no accesses to the cooling system how can it be accomplished? Have been told about a sender system that goes into the upper hoses but can't find anything from the major reproduction resellers ... my preference is a temporary/removable guage cluster (including oil pressure) that can be clamped to bottom edge of dash ... any suggestions?

  chas,

I assume you have a 21 stud engine.

The port is in the water pumps. Use the left front pump. There is a brass plug in the pumps. There are some pumps that do not have the boss/port to screw in the temp sensor. If that is the case with your setup, get a pump with the boss for use on the left front.

The sensor will be picking up the temp at the water exit from the head. Your thermostats are up near the radiator. Maybe someone can chime in with a source for the temp gage thermometer style.

There are a couple of water pumps without the port on ebay right now. That is what you don't need. There are no left or rights in the early pumps. They are the same.

I bought one NOSR last week with the port. Never pay more than $35 - $40 for them. They have the bronze bushings and are hardly worth rebuilding as the kits are $25. I did buy a kit several weeks ago and have some I may rebuild and see how they come out.

If you want to just check your stock gauge, you can hook the stock to the left and the temporary cluster to the right bank if you have the ports.
