Topic: 59AB Starter Color

OK, does anybody know for sure what the correct color is for the starter on a 59AB (Early 46)? We found engine color on cleanup but the 41-48 book says "Black"! I would not have thought that if rebuilt it would have been painted blue but would have been painted black as that would be typically what a re-builder would have done.
Thanks

The engines we received from the "authorized" Ford rebuilders were shipped with no accessories attached. We reused the carb, starter, distributor, etc, from the original engine. The starters were "chassis black", the same color as the frame. If the starter is engine color, it is likely the starter was repainted when the engine was out of the vehicle on an engine stand.

Thanks! That is what we have sort of concluded after looking at a couple of other spare starters!

Authentically starters were placed "nose down" on a conveyor as a way of masking the end of the front plate as well as the starter drive. The terminal was capped in order to mask it as well.
Then, painted as an assembly, the through bolts, inspection cover, nut & screw were painted right along with the starter.
