My dad's 48 sedan coupe has a 2 piece oil pan on an original 59AB engine. I can't find a reference to the pan in the "green bible" chassis parts catalogue. Does anyone know where this pan setup was used from the factory in the late 40's? It is a true improvement on the usual 48 oil pan when you can remove the flywheel without removing the pan.

It was used on some Flathead Ford V8 trucks. Not sure of the years. I bought one last year to use on one of my '35's that has a '36LB engine. It makes things much easier when you need to look at the clutch area. Also, you would not need to pull the engine/oil pan to replace the clutch, PP, T.O. bearing and flywheel if you first pull the transmission. JM

I have one on my 38 which has a 46-48 59 motor. Since I also use an 11-inch clutch, it makes it possible to service the clutch without pulling the pan, since an 11-inch won't clear the opening at the rear of the block. As JM stated, these were originally a truck item. Very handy, but of course not period correct to my 38.

I have one on my '35 with a 36LB engine. No problem fitting and as mentioned no need to drop the pan to remove the clutch pressure plate. If you need to remove the pan for some reason, it is much easier to do than having a one piece pan. The one I am using came from a '46 Ford truck engine. Tom
