Topic: Relay required in aftermarket horns?

  When rewiring my '34 I discovered the replacement horn was bypassed and when I connected it it constantly honked ... is a cutout relay required in that unit and where could I get one?

  The '34 did not use a horn relay. The yellow horn wires are connected directly to the battery. The horn button then supplies the necessary ground so the horns will honk. First, check the yellow/green wire from the horn button to be sure that the horn button isn't constantly grounded. It appears in the light switch at the bottom of the steering column where it joins the blue with a yellow tracer wire to the horns. If it isn't grounded, except when the button is pushed, then check the wires to the horns (blue/yellow tracer) to be sure they are not grounded, as well. I am not a fan of repro wiring looms, as they are often incorrect or have faulty wire code colors. The horns draw lots of current, and if you want to install a relay, order the 7RA-13853-6V relay from C&G, $18. The relay has three posts. One to the battery, one to the button, and the other to the horns. Do not fuse the horn circuit. A relay will protect the horn button from arcing for a longer trouble free life.
