Topic: 35-36 hand brake handle

I have two hand brake handles. One is painted black with the push knob also painted black. I assume this came from a standard car. The other one is a chocolate brown and it came from a late '36. Was the push button on the late '36 handle chrome plated? I am trying to restore my car as a late '35 delux. I assume I should paint the handle the gray that the interior trim of a late '35 should be but should the push button be plated or painted?

'35 standard and deluxe passenger cars had plated emergency brake handles, not painted. At least that is the way my original '35 standard and deluxe model tudor sedans, late standard fordor sedan and early standard 5w coupe all came from the factory. Do you have a copy of the Early Ford V8 Club's1935 to 36 Ford Book? This book should answer these and many other questions for you.

My late 36 woodie had a painted handle with the tip of the handle plated and the button plated. To simplify things I painted the handle and tip and replaced the button with a new repro.

For late 35 the handle should be Nickel plated the top is bright and the rest is butler. The knob is also bright. Riker Restoration does a lot and he knows the finish. 419 2904442

Ken, You may be correct on trucks, pickups and possibly other commercial models having painted emergency brake handles. Lawson Cox or Jerry Grayson may know the answer on that question. Maybe some day they will have their book published and this type of information will be covered.
