Early Ford Canadian VINs have letters in them. I had a 34 Tudor Frame from Vancouver BC that was C-18H-4583. Perhaps it is from North of the border.

The "C" following a number on a transmission case was often used to denote the gear ratio and type of a truck unit. For instance, 3C was for a floor shift transmission, 3CS was for a column shift. I didn't see a "9C", but that is the likely explanation. Stamped numbers are often difficult to decipher, as they may not be distinct. Most of those transmissions were made between 42-47.
