Topic: removing cam shaft

DriverDan    -- 01-20-2013 @ 8:08 AM
I am putting an Isky 77b camshaft in my 21 stud 1937 engine and have the heads and valve assemblies and lifters out. The cam will not slide out; do I have to remove the oil pump to get the cam out? The engine is in the car.

thanks for any help!

The oil pump is driven by a gear on the rear of the camshaft. I suspect the fuel pump push rod may be hanging up the camshaft if you haven't removed it. With the lifters out the shaft should be removeable. Be sure that none of the cam lobes contact the bearings as you slide it out.
