Hi, I have a 1935 block that needs rebuilt, I would like to know who will modify the block for insert main bearings, hopefully in the upper midwest?. Thanks, Randy

I don't know of anyone who modifies babbit bearing blocks for inserts. We used to use a shop in Missouri to repour bearings, but i believe they no longer are in business. That would be your best choice unless you can locate a replacement later block.

I believe that H & H flatheads in CA is doing this. They have a web site.

Randy, I would find someone that can re-pour the babbit and line bore the mains. The expense of machining the block and caps for insert bearings would not pay off in extended wear.

Richard Fallucca used to do V-8 engine as well as the 4 cylinder engines. He is located in Skokie,IL a suburb of Chicago. his web site is: http://antiqueenginerebuilding.com/

Give him a call and if he cannot do it, he may be able to recommend someone.

I also know a man that has an 36LB engine for sale. If you are interested send me a PM and I will get you in touch with him.

Tom

I once checked into having a 35/36 babbitt bearing block converted to insert bearings. Based on doing a cost comparison I could get poured babbitt, line boring and crank turned for about the same price. You should be able to find someone in your area who does poured babbitt.. Look in Services Offered in Hemmings Motor News. I always see ads listed for this service. I know several shops on the east cost who do this but probably too far for you to consider. Finding an 36LB block is another good choice or if you are not worried about originality consider using a 37 block with water pump in head cylinder heads and block off plates at holes for 37 water pumps.

Two of the best are Motor City Flatheads in Michigan or H&H in Cal.
