Topic: Rear Radius rods thru bolt

What is the reason for the the loose fit of the rear radius rods thru bolt in the axle tube radius rod hanger. When assembling a 35 tudor I noticed that the axle tube hangar bolt hole had actually elongated for a very, very sloppy fit. I re-drilled for a tight fit thru bolt(radius rods & axle tube hanger)is this going to be a problem or a no never mind?

Those rods had very little clearance for the bolts and can be a little bit of a 'pain' to install at times. They are meant to fit within a close tolerance.
How did you drill to make them tighter? I assume you welded up the elongated area?
If the rods are allowed to move, they won;t do the job they were engineered / designed for.

The rear radius rods (aka rear bones) are not loose/sloppy fitting on my '35's. The through bolt at the front of the rods fastening them to the lug welded on the torque tube is a tight fit. They are also fitted tightly to the flanges welded on the axle tubes. If this is not the case on your car, I would recommend tightening them up by whatever means that is possible for you.

It is not unusual to find rear axle housings are not straight, often from jacking the center. We find this when installing axle housing sleeves. They can be straightened by a good shop. If you have problems in getting the radius rods to fit, that is commonly the problem.
